On July 1, 2008 we welcomed Shelby Kate Swihart into our family! She weighed 8 pounds 1 ounce and was 21 inches long...we are still not sure how she fit inside!!! We decided to induce labor early Tuesday morning. It turned out to be quite a long day! The short version is this...I was fully dialated around 2pm, began pushing only to have my epidural wear off 4 times!!! By 8pm that night she still was not coming so they decided to do a C-section. Turns out the cord was wrapped around her neck 3 times! She is absolutely healthy and we are both doing just fine. Recovery was rough, but Matt was incredible and encouraged me from the minute we arrived at the hospital. I also had my mom and mother-in-law here with me for awhile. We wouldn't have made it without them either. My mom stayed by my side for 2 weeks! Shelby is the best baby and we are so proud of her, everything was well worth it! We just adore her! LOVE YOU SHEL-BELL!!!
